A BIG congratulation goes out to the participants of our HIP KIDS program who lost 48 pounds and 98 inches! We are so proud of them! Read below for a message from our wellness director at our Lansdale Branch.
“We received a grant to bring the HIP KIDS program to our Lansdale Area Family YMCA. The Health Initiative Program (HIP KIDS) brought together kids from ages 10 to 13 for a chance to learn healthy eating, fitness and how to deal with making better choices in order to become healthy adults. While the program was a weight loss program, the bigger focus was on good health practices through good nutrition and fitness. The kids worked for 12 weeks with a Registered Dietician, Physiologist and 4 Personal Trainers. They learned how to eat healthy through understanding what good nutrition is, did fitness classes ranging from Yoga to spinning with the trainers, and also participated in a weekly group dealing with issues such as emotional eating, mindful eating, and self-esteem. The results were fantastic! The overall total of weight loss was 48 pounds and 98 inches! We are going to run the program again in fall.
