Staff & Member Blogs – Mary Ellen Meehan

March 18, 2020

Mary Ellen Meehan, Group Exercise Coordinator, Lansdale branch

I want to briefly share with you a few bright spots during this unprecedented situation.

Over the past four days, I have had the most wonderful time reconnecting with my family – specifically, my 14 year old son.  Don’t get me wrong:  with my husband working from home and my son’s school closed for the next two weeks, I can’t promise they both won’t end up for sale on Ebay.
With that being said, I have been taking long hikes with my family, and cleaning up the yard.  For the first time in about seven years, I have actually played outside with my son.  Hockey, basketball and lacrosse – all of which I’m happy I had the good sense not to pursue professionally after college.
I have seen many other families doing similar activities and really enjoying themselves.  I have to wonder:  Where is all of our valuable time being spent?

In this time of fear and uncertainty, the few things we can be certain of is the importance of  family.  There is a saying that I remember hearing in a movie:  “It’s easy to forget what’s important – so don’t.”

My intention is not to get all sentimental and sound wishy-washy, but I, for one, have really enjoyed the past few days, and look forward to some more quality time with my family.    This has been the one bright spot in the midst of all the chaos that is happening around me.

May God bless each and every one of you and keep you safe.
