Three new awesome amenities – a whirlpool, a sauna and a steam room – have opened in Lansdale.
But which one should you be using and when should you be using it? Good question, right?
All three amenities help to reduce muscle tension, promote relaxation and calm your mind. Heat in general improves circulation. It also promotes sweating, which opens up your pores and cleanses your skin. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of preference. But they should all be used after a workout and in moderation. Too much of any of these three will undermine the positive effects of your workout.
The whirlpool is a therapeutic treatment because the 100 degree heat and water jets release tension from your sore muscles. The difference between a sauna and a steam room is basically dry vs. wet heat. Saunas provide dry heat, while steam rooms generate moist heat. Both can open up your pores, loosen up your muscles and help you relax. However, saunas run considerably hotter than steam rooms. Our sauna is around 150 degrees with a humidity level of about 20 percent. Our steam room tops out at about 120 degrees, but the 100 percent humidity keeps your sweat from evaporating, making you feel much hotter. Whether dry or wet, hot air always rises. So, in both saunas and steam rooms, the higher up you sit, the hotter you’ll get.
Saunas are the better choice for people with conditions that can be aggravated by humidity, such as rheumatoid arthritis. In addition steam rooms may be more comfortable for people with allergies or congestion in the chest or sinuses.
All three are open the same hours as our new lap/recreation pool. For any questions about the whirlpool, sauna or steam room, please contact John at [email protected].
