Stay & Play Frequently Asked Questions

Our Stay & Play staff are warm, caring and enjoy working with children! Our staff range from former and current child care providers, stay at home and working mothers, and high schools who love working with children. All Stay & Play staff have their state mandated clearances that allow them to work directly with children and have been trained on how to ensure safety for all children and how to respond to emergency situations if they arise.

Yes, parents must remain within the YMCA facility if their child is left under Stay & Play care. At check in, please let Stay & Play staff know your location in case we need you.

It is completely normal for a child to get upset if they are being separated from their parents. Our Stay & Play staff will comfort your child and try their very best to calm them down and have them participate in socializing with other children. However, if your child remains upset and cries continuously for more than 10 minutes, we will ask you to pick up your child and invite you to visit us another day. It may take some time for your child to acclimate to our room but we assure you that your child will get there!

Unfortunately no, you will not be able to leave any children other than your own in our care. Our Child Release Policy states that grandparents are the only ones that are able to leave children with us that are not their own. Grandparents are allowed to bring their grandchildren to the Y and use our services if there is a Child Release form signed by the children’s parents. Please contact your Stay & Play Coordinator with any questions regarding this.

Unfortunately children over the age 12 months are not permitted to bring a snack into the room, although they are permitted to bring a labeled water bottle. Children under the age of 24 months are permitted to bring bottles or spill proof sippy cups with cow’s milk/breastmilk/formula. Our caregivers will happily make your child a baby bottle we just ask that you please supply bottles with water and pre-measured formula.

Children under the age of 12 months in addition to bringing in a bottle may also be allowed to bring in a small portioned snack (i.e. puffs, yogurt melts, and fruit/vegetable pouches). Please be reminded that Stay & Play is a PEANUT and TREE NUT FREE environment.
