Please take note of changes to our swimming lessons curriculum.
At the Y, we believe that swimming is a life skill. As a parent, guardian, or family member, we’re sure you’d agree. Because of our long tradition of providing effective, high-quality swim lesson programs that teach people to have fun and be safe around water, we are confident that our new swim lessons curriculum will create an environment where all can come together to learn, grow, and thrive.
About the Curriculum
The organization of the new swim lessons curriculum allows for both standardization and flexibility. The curriculum is organized into three general categories:
Once students have progressed through the stages in all three categories, they have the opportunity to follow three different pathways:
- Competition – for students who want to swim competitively, either at the Y or for a different organization
- Leadership – for students who want to become a lifeguard or otherwise use swimming skills in their professional career
- Recreation – for students who want to make swimming a part of a healthy lifestyle and a way of getting the recommended amount of physical activity per day
You will begin to see changes in our swim lessons curriculum in the coming months, including the names of the classes. Your anticipated patience and cooperation is appreciated as we work to ensure that our swim lessons are the safest, and most effective available.
