For more than 20 years, the Indian Valley branch of the North Penn YMCA has been part of Tom and Peggy Moyer’s lives. What began as a place to stay active has grown into something much more, with multiple generations of their family now connected to the Y. They currently have two grandchildren taking swim lessons and one great-grandchild in the Y day care.
As the years have passed, the Y has grown alongside them, supporting each stage of life with programs, connections, and a strong sense of community.
For Peggy, it is the relationships built along the way that make the Y truly special. “You make real friendships in the group exercise classes,” she shares. “We all look after and care for each other. People will notice if you’re missing from a class.”
Tom values the Y not only for physical wellness, but for the role it plays in keeping people socially connected in an increasingly isolated world. His commitment extends beyond membership, as he also serves on the branch board, helping to support the Y’s mission and strengthen its impact in the community.
Both Tom and Peggy regularly participate in group exercise classes, adapting their routines over time to fit their changing needs and interests. With a wide variety of classes available, they believe there is something for everyone, no matter your age or interests. They also credit the instructors for creating a welcoming and supportive environment that keeps them coming back.
For those just starting their wellness journey, Peggy encourages new members to connect with staff for guidance and support. Tom adds that it is important to start small and take it one step at a time, allowing new habits to grow into a routine. Over time, he has found that taking a mix of classes to support cardio, strength, and flexibility helps support overall health and well-being.
Tom and Peggy’s story highlights how the Y is much more than a gym. It is the place where families grow, goals are achieved, and friendships are made. From children to seniors, the Y evolves with you through every stage of life.
